MARTIN, Tenn. - Southern Miss fell in the final game of the Puma Skyhawk Invitational to host Tennessee Martin, 2-1 Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles (3-3) finished 1-1 in the tournament with Friday's victory over Murray State. Elisha Tarbell, Samantha Polley and Stefani Buller were all named to the All-Tournament team.
In Sunday's game, Tennessee Martin (3-3) was able to score both goals off corner kicks, one in the 15th minute and the golden goal in the 63rd minute.
"We have to do a better job not giving up corners and improve our individual marking assignments, especially on set pieces," head coach Scott Ebke said.
Southern Miss was able to take a tie game into the half thanks to Stefani Buller's first goal of the season in the 28th minute. Elisha Tarbell picked up her first assist of the season by winning an air ball and serving the ball perfectly into Buller who turned and hit from about 10 yards out straight on to tie the game at one.
The Golden Eagles return to the pitch this weekend as they host two in-state schools in their final weekend of non-conference play. Southern Miss will host Alcorn State on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Mississippi Valley Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
"We are going to get back to work this week and get ready to play two instate schools with C-USA play right around the corner," Ebke added.
