HATTIESBURG, Miss. Southern Miss women's tennis head coach Randy Rowley announced the addition of Francis Askew to the Lady Eagles for the 2009-2010 season.
Askew, of New Zealand, has represented New Zealand in ITF junior and team events in both Australia and New Zealand. She was runner up in the Australia Bairnsdale Open Clay tournament for girls under 16, before advancing to winner of the girls under 18 Bairnsdale Open Clay tournament. In addition, Askew was the junior singles winner of the county closed and open singles tournament.
"I definitely feel this is the best recruiting class with Vroni, Anglea and now Francis, that I have had since I arrived at Southern Miss," said Rowley. "I feel this team will put us back into the national rankings and back into the upper portion of Conference USA where we were two years ago."
Askew is the third addition for the 2009-2010 season. Southern Miss signed Angela Roesler of Sweden and Vroni van Berlo of the Netherlands in early June.
