Baseball Finishes 2009 Season With a No. 8 National Ranking

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball program's magical run through the post season has garnered a No. 8 final ranking in three of the major collegiate baseball polls, the first time in school history a men's sport has finished the season ranked in the Top 10.
The National College Baseball Writers, Collegiate Baseball Magazine and The USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll all tabbed the Golden Eagles as No. 8 in their final polls.
Baseball America and Rivals.com both tabbed Southern Miss as No. 11 despite being one of only eight teams advancing to College World Series.
It was also a banner year for Conference USA schools, for the first time in league history, two C-USA teams finished the season ranked in the top 10 and three teams were listed in the top 15 of the final rankings. Rice and Southern Miss were each ranked in the top 10, while East Carolina was as high as No. 15.
Rice, Southern Miss and East Carolina all advanced to NCAA Super Regionals, the first time in league history that three teams advanced to Supers. Southern Miss gave C-USA a team in the College World Series for the fifth consecutive season.
