Southern Miss Picks Up 4-3 Decision Over Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. Southern Miss women's tennis defeated Jacksonville State in a close 4-3 match Wednesday at the JSU Tennis Courts.
The Lady Eagles picked up the doubles point, giving them an early lead in the match. The doubles pair of Elja van Berlo and Lauren Gutterman defeated Viviane Marani and Julianna Renesto, 8-2. Alexandra Kaluza and Zoe Lee also picked up a win at No. 3, defeating Kimberly Ferris and Kristen Fuller, 8-2. Hollie Robinson and Shannon Rogers fell to Martina Dessbesell and Eloah Lopes, 8-4.
The singles competition proved to be a challenge for both teams, with the final decision coming down to the last match. Lauren Gutterman defeated Rafaila Wenzel, 6-1, 6-1. Hollie Robinson tallied a win over Eloah Lopes, 6-1, 5-2. Alexandra Kaluza fell to Martin Dessbesell, 6-1, 6-2. Zoe Lee dropped a 6-2, 6-4 match to Kristen Fuller, while Shannon Rogers was defeated by Kimberly Ferris, 6-1, 6-1.
The match was tied 3-3, as Elja van Berlo picked up the winning point in a tough three-set match. She defeated Viviane Marani at No. 1, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
The Lady Eagles will return to action on Saturday, April 4, as they host Southern at Tatum Park. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
