Women's Tennis Falls to Rice in C-USA Championship Opening Match, 4-0

HOUSTON, Texas- Southern Miss dropped a 4-0 decision to host team Rice in the first round of the C-USA Tennis Championship Thursday at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium in Houston.
The 12th seeded Lady Eagles fell behind early, losing the doubles competition to the fifth seeded Owls. Hollie Robinson and Shannon Rogers were defeated by Rebecca Lin and Jessica Jackson, 8-2, at No. 2. Alexandra Kaluza and Zoe Lee followed at No. 3, losing to Alex Rasch and Rebekka Hänle, 8-6. Doubles play was stopped after Rice earned the doubles point, leaving the No. 1 position match unfinished between Southern Miss' Elja van Berlo and Lauren Gutterman, and the Rice pair Julie Chao and Ana Guzman.
Southern Miss could not seem to catch up in singles play as Rice earned the three points needed to win. Kaluza fell to Hänle at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0. The No. 5 position decision was made when Lin defeated Lee, 6-3, 6-1. Play was halted when Rice earned their final point as Rogers fell to Rasch, 6-4, 6-1.
The Lady Eagles finish the season with an overall record of 7-12.
