Last Week in Review:
Southern Miss used extra innings to win their only road contest thus far this season in a 4-2 victory over Louisiana Monroe Wednesday evening at Warhawk Field.
Collin Cargill (1-0) picked up his first win of the season working the final 2.2 innings allowing only two hits and striking out four, including working out of a bases loaded jam when he entered in the eighth inning and again to finish off the game in the tenth inning.
The No. 7 Cal State Fullerton Titans proved to be to much for the Golden Eagles as they became the first non-conference team to sweep Southern Miss at Pete Taylor Park since the 1996 season.
Junior Transfer Taylor Walker led the Golden Eagles at the plate with a 6-16 week (.375) including a double and here RBI.
On the mound freshman Matt Warren worked 4.2 innings without allowing a run and only two hits in two appearances while sophomore Seth Hester worked four innings, allowing only one unearned run and three hits while striking out two.
TWIB Notes:
· Southern Miss finished the month of February a perfect 7-0 but are currently only 1-4 in the month of March
· Brian Dozier extended his hitting streak to 12 games, hitting safely in every game this season. Taylor Walker has hit in nine straight games including seven multi hit games.
· Southern Miss has recorded at least 10 hits in every game this season but two and double digit runs in seven of the teams 12 games.
· The Golden Eagle offense has scored 111 runs on 143 hits through 12 games this season, averaging 9.25 runs per game and 11.9 hits per game on the season
· The Golden Eagles have been equally impressive on the mound as well, allowing 47 earned runs in 109 innings of work while striking out 77 hitters and walking only 27
· Southern Miss started the season by either leading or tied for 65 consecutive innings before ULL took a lead in the third innings of the eighth game.
- The Golden Eagles are a perfect 18-18 stealing bases this season
- 36,602 fans have already witnessed Southern Miss play a home game this season, an average of 3,327 per game.
The Week's Opponents:
UNO will wrap up an eight game homestand against Southern Miss on Tuesday. The Privateers (5-7, 1-2 Sun Belt) have been struggling as of late, losing seven of their last nine games. Included in that streak is a 13-5 loss against the Golden Eagles on Feb. 24th at Pete Taylor Park, the Privateers only road game this season. Southern Miss has won three consecutive games over UNO, including two in last years NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.
Louisiana Tech (7-3) will visit "The Pete" for a three game series this weekend, the two teams have not meet since 2006 when they played a single game in Jackson, Miss. Southern Miss leads the all-time series 11-10 but are 6-1 under Coach Palmer. The two teams last met for a three game series in 2004 in Ruston, La and the Golden Eagles swept the series. They last meet in Hattiesburg in the 2003 season when Southern Miss also swept the series.
The Bulldogs are coming off a three game home weekend sweep over Eastern Michigan this past weekend. Their only three loses this season came in a three game weekend series sweep at McNeese State. They are hitting .317 as a team with 105 runs scored on 115 hits and 94 RBI. On the mound they have a team ERA of 5.59 in 87 innings while striking out 89 hitters and walking only 40.
Record Watch:
- Brian Dozier needs only 37 hits to break Trey Sutton's school career hit record of 312
- Dozier needs only 16 singles to break the school's single record of 224 held currently by Trey Sutton
- With 25 hits Dozier will join Sutton as the only Golden Eagle players in school history to accumulate 300 career hits
- Bo Davis recorded two triples already this season to tie the school's career triple record of 13 set by Chad Herbert from 1989-92

Following the Golden Eagles:
WXHB The Hub, 96.5 will once again serve as the flagship radio station for Golden Eagles baseball in 2008. John Cox is in his 27th year calling Golden Eagles baseball. He will be joined in the booth this season by Jack Duggan and Jason Baker.
Southernmiss.com will once again stream live stats of all 52 games on a real time basis and live video will be available for all home games and selected road games through Southern Miss All-Access
This Week at "The Pete":
On Friday ,March 13, baseball will host Southern Miss Faculty and Staff Day. All faculty and staff can purchase an unlimited number of tickets for $5 with their USM ID.
On Saturday, March 14, The Golden Eagles will have "Family Four Pack Day" Where fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four cokes for $40.

Individual game tickets can be purchased through the Pat Ferlise Athletic Ticket Office on West 4th St., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, over the phone at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or online at SouthernMiss.com. The Pete Taylor Park ticket office will open approximately two hours prior to first pitch.
Also, season tickets packages are still available in the reserved bleacher and general admission sections but the reserved chair back seats have already been sold out.

Conference USA Tournament:
The 2009 Conference USA Tournament will be held this season at Pete Taylor Park from May 20-24. Tournament Ticket books are now on sale at the Southern Miss ticket office.
