Southern Miss Ends Road Trip at South Alabama

Southern Miss-South Alabama Game Notes
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's basketball team ends a two-game road trip this Saturday, Dec. 12, when it travels to Mobile, Ala. to take South Alabama. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.
Southern Miss and South Alabama will meet for the 31st time, with the Golden Eagles holding a 19-11 advantage. However, the Jaguars have the last three meetings. In games played in Mobile, the two teams have split the series, 8-8. Last year, South Alabama defeated the Eagles in overtime, 76-73.
Southern Miss enters Saturday night's game with a 5-1 record after dropping its first game of the season, an 81-79 defeat at Ole Miss, last Saturday afternoon at Tad Smith Coliseum.
Junior forward Gary Flowers led the way for the Golden Eagles with a season-high 20 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Angelo Johnson had a season-high 16 points. Sophomore Maurice Bolden had 10 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard R.L. Horton added 10 points, all in the second half.
Through six games, Bolden is ninth in Conference USA with 15.3 points per game, tied for sixth in rebounding with 7.5 points and fifth in field goal percentage, connecting on 55.6-percent of his shots.
Flowers is second on the team with 13.4 points and tied for first with 7.6 rebounds, while junior guard R.L. Horton is contributing 11.0 points.
As a team, Southern Miss is scoring 76.8 points per game, while allowing 65.2. The Golden Eagles are second in the conference in rebounding, pulling down 39.7 boards per game, while giving up just 28.0 to the opposition, tops in C-USA. The Black and Gold are also second in C-USA in field goal percentage, connecting on 47.9-percent of their shots.
Head coach Larry Eustachy is in his sixth season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. He has compiled an 80-81 (.497) record during his time as head coach. In 18 years, Eustachy has an overall record of 340-226 (.601).
South Alabama enters Saturday night's contest with a 7-2 record and has won its last four games. The Jaguars are coming off a 70-51 victory over Mobile. Junior guard Tim Williams led USA with 13 points and six rebounds. Senior forward LaShun Watson and senior guard Bryan Sherrer had 13 points apiece.
Williams leads South Alabama with 14.4 points and 7.7 rebounds, which is third in the Sun Belt Conference. Freshman forward Martino Brock is second with 11.6 points and 6.8 rebounds. Sherrer is also scoring 10.6 points.
As a team, South Alabama is averaging 72.9 points per game, while giving up 63.9. The Jaguars are connecting on 45.9-percent of its shots while holding the opposition to 38.4-percent. USA also leads the Sun Belt with 9.6 steals per game.
Head coach Ronnie Arrow is in his 10th season at the helm of the South Alabama men's basketball program, compiling a 167-115 (.592) record during his tenure as head coach. In 19 years as a head coach, Arrow is 301-206 (.594).
