HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss Head Women's Basketball Coach Joye Lee-McNelis has announced the signing of Tiara George of Baton Rouge, La., to national letter of intent and grant-in-aid for the 2010-11 academic year.
George, a 6-1 forward, averaged 11.0 points and 7.6 rebounds and two blocks for Coach Bryon Coleman at Angelina Community College last season, helping her team to a 23-8 record and an appearance in the Region XIV Tournament. She earned Region XIV Freshman of the Year honors as she led Angelina in scoring and rebounding.
"Tiara is a player who is expected to have an immediate impact in our program," McNelis said. "She has very good strength and a scorers' mentality. I expect her to help ease the pain of losing Pauline Love. Tiara is one of the best junior college players in all of Texas. We are excited to have her as a part of our program."
George played at Glen Oaks High School, Baton Rouge, La., where she averaged 16.2 points and 11.5 rebounds as a senior for Coach Harold Boudreaux. She was named first team all-state, a four-time first team all-district selection, while earning district Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2008 and 2007.
