Dallas - For the third consecutive game the Golden Eagle soccer team was shutout, today at the hands of SMU in a 4-0 loss.
The early woes continue as Southern Miss (4-12, 0-10 C-USA) surrendered another early goal, today it took SMU just 80 seconds to score the games first goal for a 1-0 lead.
"Today we were not sharp and SMU made us pay in the first minute of the game, head coach Scott Ebke said. "Giving up early goals is not a trend we want to continue. I've said it many times this season that playing catch up in soccer is difficult and we had to do that today."
In six of the teams Conference USA loses this season they have surrendered a goal in the first six minutes of the game, they did not come back to take the lead in any of those contest.
In fact, the Golden Eagles have not had a lead at any point in the last 10 games, since the start of C-USA play. The team's last lead was in a 4-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State on September 20th.
SMU (6-10-1, 4-5-1 C-USA) added another goal in the 44th minute, right before halftime, for a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
The Mustangs struck for the games final two goals at the 52:02 mark and again just over two minutes later at the 54:14 mark.
SMU outshot Southern Miss 17-3 on the afternoon.
The Golden Eagles travel to UCF next Friday in their final contest of the season.
