HOUSTON - The Southern Miss soccer team fell short once again with a 2-0 loss Sunday to Rice in Houston.
The Golden Eagles (4-10, 0-8 C-USA) surrendered a goal in each half with the Owls striking in the 42nd minute and the 53rd minute for the games only goals.
Rice (4-10-2, 2-6 C-USA) outshot Southern Miss 25-5 on the afternoon and registered 11 corner kick while the black and goal did not earn any corners.
On the weekend at Houston and Rice, Southern Miss was outshot 46-7.
"We didn't do a good job in our attack this weekend," head coach Scott Ebke said. "Our inability to keep the ball allowed Rice to generate a lot of chances today. Any time your attacking players give the ball away, your backs are going to be put under pressure. In order for us to create scoring opportunities, our attacking players need to take responsibility and be confident on the ball."
Southern Miss will continue on the road next weekend as they travel to Tulsa and SMU while attempting to snap their eight game losing streak.
