HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss soccer team nearly sent their seniors out in style in their final home game but UTEP netted a goal in the 78th minute for a 1-0 victory.
The Golden Eagles held UTEP scoreless through the first 77 minutes of the game, which is not small feat as the Minors are one of the top offenses in C-USA this season.
UTEP's Katie Dorman headed in the games only goal off a corner kick play at the 78:15 mark which was the only mistake on the afternoon for the Golden Eagle defense which played spectacular until that point.
"I am very disappointed for the players who left everything on the field," head coach Scott Ebke said. "We stressed in pregame that we had to take care of our individual marking responsibilities on corner kicks and we did not take care of those responsibilities on one play and that was the difference in the game."
With todays match the Golden Eagles conclude the home portion of their schedule and will finish the season on the road for the next five games.
"Playing on the road in this conference is not easy, we have to buckle down and find a way to get it done," Ebke added.
