Women's Tennis Team Concludes Play at Auburn Winter Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team concluded its play at the Auburn Winter Invitational Sunday.
Starting with doubles' play, Elja van Berlo and Lauren Gutterman dropped their doubles' match to Jenny Cape and Evelien Strijker (UAB), 8-6, while Shannon Rogers and Zoe Lee fell to Brittany DeFelice and Giorgia Romeo (UAB), 8-6.
In singles play, Strijker (UAB) defeated van Berlo, 6-3, 6-4. It took two, two-set tie breakers for Romeo (UAB) to down Gutterman, 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (7-5). Lee lost to DeFelice (UAB), 7-6 (7-2), 6-0, while Cape (UAB) knocked off Rogers, 6-2, 6-3. Rounding out singles' play was Sarah Ellis losing to Ceylan Engin (UAB), 6-1 , 6-0.
Southern Miss opens dual match play, beginning Feb. 7, when the Lady Eagles host SMU in a 1 p.m. match.
