Lady Eagles Earn Sixth Place Finish at Cincinnati Fall Classic

Cincinnati, Ohio - The Southern Miss women's golf team ended the Cincinnati Fall Classic with a final round 301 to earn a sixth place finish. It was their second straight top ten finish. The tournament was hosted by the University of Cincinnati and was played at the Elks Run Golf Course.
Sophomore Virginia Espejo continued her strong play, finishing six-over par (73-77-72 - 222) for sixth-place. Her final round 72 was a career-low.
Junior Samantha Holt earned her second consecutive top-20 finish, closing the tournament with 231 strokes (79-76-76) to tie for 16th-place. Junior Amy Roberts finished with 242 strokes (87-74-81) and a tie for 39th-place. Juniors Clara Viladomiu and Rebecka Nilsson finished in ties for 41st and 44th-place, respectively. Viladomiu shot a 243 (85-82-76), while Nilsson closed with a 245 (85-83-77).
Georgia State's Iliska Verwey won the individual competition with a six-under 210. Mary Betancourt of Augusta State finished in second place with a one-under 215. ASU's Tamara Luccioli, Kate Moore of Cincinnati and Georgia State's Catherine Madsen earned a tie for third-place.
Georgia State won the team tournament, finishing with 880 strokes. Augusta State came in second place with 896 strokes, followed by host-school Cincinnati with 907 strokes. Middle Tennessee State finished in fourth with 908 strokes, while Texas-Pan American came in fifth (926).
Southern Miss (932) earned a sixth-place finish, followed by Xavier (948), Bethel College (949), Cincinnati's B-Team (971), IPFW (976) and Memphis (1,023).
Southern Miss will take the next three weeks off before they return to action next October 6-7 for Marshall's Lady Herd Fall Invitational in Hurricane, W.V.
