TUSCON, Ariz. - University of Southern Mississippi pitcher Todd McInnis was named today to the 2008 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team as chosen by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
McInnis, a native of Brandon, Mississippi, posted a 6-3 record this season while striking out 75 batters in 71 innings of work. His wins, innings pitched and strikeouts were all second on the team to Barry Bowden.
He was slated to be the No. 3 starter for the Golden Eagles heading into the season but injuries to Bowden and David Clark forced McInnis into the Friday night role for part of the season as he fought through his own arm troubles through out the season.
Southern Miss was 12-3 in the games that McInnis appeared this season showing that even the games he did not receive a decision he kept his team close enough to win.
McInnis becomes the 11th Freshman All- American in the last seven years to play for the Golden Eagles. 2008 team members that also earned the honor include Brian Dozier (2006), Michael Ewing (2006), Trey Sutton (2005) and James Ewing (2006 at Arkansas).
McInnis was also named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team last month.
