Baseball Team Picks up Five All-Conference Honors

NEW ORLEANS - Conference USA recognized five Southern Miss players as they announced the 2008 C-USA awards. Pitchers Barry Bowden and Tyler Conn along with infielder James Ewing were named first team All-C-USA.
Shortstop Brian Dozier earned second team All-C-USA and freshman Todd McInnis was named to the All C-USA Freshman Team.
McInnis and Ewing joined Trey Sutton on the C-USA All-Academic team which was announced yesterday.
Bowden has been the ace of the Southern Miss staff all season with a 7-3 record and 69 strikeouts in 60.2 innings worked. He was named the C-USA pitcher of the week three times this season and National Pitcher of the Week by two different publications.
Conn currently leads not only C-USA but the nation in saves with 16 this season. He tied the C-USA mark of single season saves with his last save at UAB this past weekend and is currently only four saves from tying the Southern Miss career record in saves of 25. He has worked 32.1 innings this season strikeout out 41 and walking only 11 while allowing only three earned runs for an ERA of 0.84.
Ewing is the top hitter for Southern Miss this season with a .377 batting average, which is also fourth in C-USA. The second baseman has 63 hits including 12 doubles, two triples and five home runs for a .573 slugging percentage.
Dozier, who was selected to the pre-season All-CUSA, team earned second team All-C-USA this season. He has been the iron man for the Golden Eagles starting all 56 games at shortstop and only missing two innings all season. He has started 187 of the 188 games in his three year career at Southern Miss, only missing one game last season to attend his grandfather's funeral. Headed into this weeks C-USA tournament he is riding a 17 game hit streak and leading the Golden Eagles with 83 hits on the season.
McInnis was named to the C-USA All-Freshman team. He is 6-2 on the season and Southern Miss is 12-2 in games that he has pitched in this season. He leads Southern Miss with 71 strikeouts and 67 innings pitched.
