Women's Tennis Team Drops Final Regular Season Match

HAMMOND, La. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team lost its season finale, 6-1, to Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, Southern Miss drops to 8-5 and Southeastern won its 13-straight match, improving to 15-2.
Sophomore Stephanie Dellocono recorded the lone point for the Lady Eagles with 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 win at No. 3 singles.
SLU opened the match sweeping the doubles to earn the doubles' points. Nina Knavs and Breda Kovac defeated Dellocono and Zoe Lee, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, while Emilija Arnaudovska and Iva Velkovska knocked off Lauren Gutterman and Sherry Price, 8-4, at No. 2. Rounding out the doubles' action, Bonnie Phillips and Jana Simurkova defeated Ali Blackett and Shannon Rogers, 8-7 (6).
The Lady Lions carried their momentum over into the singles competition, winning five of the six matches. Arnaudovska defeated Price at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-2. Simurkova defeated Lee, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 4 singles. Phillips knocked off Gutterman, 6-2, 4-6, 10-7, at No. 5 and Knavs downed Rogers, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6. Velkovska was leading Blackett, 6-5, before Blackett retired.
Southern Miss returns to action in the Conference USA Tennis Championships, April 17-20, in Houston, Texas.
