Baseball Travels to No. 26 Cal State Fullerton This Weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss - - The University of Southern Mississippi Baseball team is headed out to the west coast for a three game series at No. 26 Cal State Fullerton this weekend.
Southern Miss (6-3) is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time this season, at No.25 Louisiana Lafayette last Sunday and at No. 2 Ole Miss Tuesday. The Golden Eagles are currently in the middle of an eight game road trip, with the three game series at Fullerton and a mid-week game at Univ. of New Orleans (7-2) next Wednesday remaining. Southern Miss will return to "The Pete" on March 14 for the start of the annual Coca-Cola Classic.
Senior RHP Barry Bowden put the Golden Eagles in the national spotlight this past week, earning two national pitcher of the week awards, two regional pitcher of the week awards and Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honors. All from his two-hit complete-game shutout at No. 25 Louisiana Lafayette last Friday, in which the Golden Eagles won 6-0.
Bowden (2-0, 0.63 ERA) will toe the rubber again this Friday against Cal State Fullerton right-hander Adam Jorgenson (0-0, 6.75 ERA), first pitch Friday is set for 9:00 p.m. CST.
David Clark (1-0, 3.09) will take the ball Saturday vs. Titans right-handed pitcher Cory Arbiso (0-2, 6.30), first pitch for that game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CST.
On Sunday Josh Billeaud (0-1, 4.85) will make his third career start in search of his first win as a member of the Golden Eagles. He will face off against Fullerton ace Jeff Kaplan (2-1, 4.97 ERA) who was pushed back to Sunday after defeating No. 3 UCLA Tuesday. He tossed six shutout innings while striking out eight and allowing only two Bruin hits in the 7-1 victory. Sunday's game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. CST start.
The Golden Eagles will battle against Cal State Fullerton (5-4) for the first time in school history. The Titans have been one of the most successful teams in the country over the last few years, advancing to the College World Series four of the last five seasons, and 15 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances.
For fans wanting a closer look at the Titans, they are scheduled visit "The Pete" next season as a part of the agreement between the two teams.
