HATTIESBURG, Miss - The Southern Miss soccer team lost a close 1-0 game to Houston Friday afternoon at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles fell to 5-9-1 (1-6-0 C-USA) on the season once again be within a single goal of changing the game. Five of the nine Southern Miss defeats this season has been by one goal.
"We did some good things today and I am proud of the effort and intensity we put forth today," head coach Scott Ebke said. "We game up the early goal and just could not find a way to bounce back."
The Cougars struck for the games only goal just six minutes in as Kaitilin Thulin found the back of the net from inside the box.
Houston played possession soccer the rest of the afternoon keeping Southern Miss running and chasing all over the field. The Golden Eagles had a few dangerous opportunities that they were unable to capitalize on throughout the game to remain scoreless.
On the afternoon the Golden Eagles outshot the Cougars 19-12 and took five corner kicks to Houston's one.
Southern Miss will return to action Sunday afternoon as they host the Rice Owls at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex, kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
"Another great team is coming in here Sunday, we will get to work immediately to prepare the team for another tough match," Ebke added.
