HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - For the first time in school history, the Southern Miss women's tennis team received a national ranking at No. 74 in this week's Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings administrated by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
"We are very excited to be ranked," Head Coach Randy Rowley said. "It's been a great year for us. The freshmen have obviously given us a good lift, and our veteran players who have been here and gone through the tough times have played well. We have tried to take our time and create a good base and are getting the type of players here that we need to help us to continue to grow."
Southern Miss is off to its best start in school history with a 16-3 record. Four players are sporting records with 20 or more win on the season. The Lady Eagles' roster include one senior (Grace Kammerer), three juniors (Sherry Price, Ali Blackett, Natalia Parrado), three sophomores (Chelsea Bond, Brittany Serret, Kristi Wittman) and three freshmen (Stephanie Dellocono, Lauren Gutterman, Kellen Murphy).
