Women's Tennis Team Downs Southern University, 6-1

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The women's tennis team downed Southern University, 6-1, Wednesday afternoon at Tatum Park.
"We didn't do anything other than play well enough to win," Head Coach Randy Rowley said. "We were trying to recover from the tournament on the coast and get back into our routine. We still needed to keep up the intensity. We look forward to playing Monroe at 1 tomorrow."
Southern Miss (15-3) opened match by winning the doubles' point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Ali Blackett and Grace Kammerer started with a convincing win at No. 2 doubles, 8-1, over Khyelle Anthony/Sidney Lartique (SU). Southern was a winner at No. 3 doubles, when Gabrielle Marshall/Megan Wiltz (SU) downed Natalia Parrado/Kristi Wittman, 8-3. The Lady Eagles clinched the doubles' point, when Sherry Price and Brittany Serret outlasted Janelle Mosley/Bethlehem Workeneh (SU), 8-6.
Southern tied the match at 1-1, winning its only singles match at No. 6, when Marshall (SU) defeated Wittman, 6-2, 6-0.
Price then rolled to a 6-1, 6-0, win at No. 1 singles over Mosley. Parrado downed Anthony at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-2, giving the Lady Eagles a 3-1 lead. Kammerer clinched the match at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-2, win over Lartique. Rounding out the Lady Eagles results was Lauren Gutterman winning at No. 3 singles over Workeneh, 6-4, 6-1, and Stephanie Dellocono knocking off Wiltz at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-4.
Southern Miss returns to action on Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe at 1 p.m., at Tatum Park.
