Women's Golf Ties For Fifth at Baja Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Jennifer Bodemann posted rounds of 82, 79 and 79 to finish with a 24-over-par 240, good for ninth place, to lead Southern Miss in the two-day, 54-hole Baja Invitational that was held at the Bajamar Golf Resort in Ensenada, Mexico, Monday and Tuesday.
Bodemann's score did not count toward the team's count as she played as an individual. Sophomore Heather Golden (81-82-80) and freshman Rebecka Nilsson (79-80-84) were the top team finishers by tying for 17th place with a three-round total of 243, while freshman Ashley Joubert (84-83-82) ranked tied for No. 24 with a 249.
Sophomore Kate Burns (94-82-84) placed in a 47th-place tie with a total score of 260, while freshman Samantha Holt (85-100-93) took home a 65th-place tie with a 278 and junior Helena Backlund (94-93-95), competing as an individual, posted a 278 to take a 68th-place tie..
Toledo won the team title with a three-round score of 947, beating second-place finisher Eastern Michigan (972) by 25 strokes. Following EMU in the final standings were Texas-San Antonio (973), Portland State (982), Wichita State and Southern Miss (329-327-330=986), Eastern Kentucky (988), Winthrop (992), Cincinnati (1,005), Eastern Illinois (1,012), Northern Illinois (1,033), Detroit Mercy (1,038) and Anderson (1,072).
The Lady Eagles return to action March 5-6, at the Lady Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Ala.
