Men's Basketball Opens 2007-08 Season with Belhaven

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - For the second consecutive season, Southern Miss opens its' regular season campaign against Belhaven, taking on the Blazers Monday night at 7:00 p.m. (CT) at Reed Green Coliseum.
The two teams are meeting for the second consecutive season Southern Miss' season opener. Last year, Southern Miss defeated Belhaven, 63-38. The Golden Eagles had two players reach double-figures, led by Sai'Quon Stone's 17 points. Jeremy Wise scored ten points, and Gjio Bain added seven rebounds.
The Golden Eagles went undefeated in exhibition play, opening with a 100-55 victory over Loyola (N.O.) before defeating LCC International, 106-45. Four players averaged double-figure points over the two games. Pre-season All-Conference USA selection Jeremy Wise averaged 18.5 points and 3.0 rebounds. Freshman R.L. Horton averaged 16.5 points. Also averaging double-figures were Sai'Quon Stone (14.5) and Courtney Beasley (14.0).
Belhaven enters Monday's game with a 4-0 record. The Blazers are coming off a 90-78 victory at Blue Mountain Saturday afternoon. BC is led by forward Korey Whiting. The junior is averaging 16.7 points per game and 9.7 rebounds. Junior guard Dax Miller is second on the team in scoring with 16.0 points per game.
Southern Miss will then take to the road on Wednesday, November 14 when they face Cal at 9:30 p.m. (CT). It will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
