HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team will begin its official fall workouts starting on Monday, Sept. 25, at 2:30 p.m., at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. The Golden Eagles will practice Monday through Friday for the next four weeks, and will scrimmage each Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The practices will last throughout the month of October, ending with the annual Black-Gold game on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1:30 p.m.
"I'm anxious and ready for the start of another year of baseball," Southern Miss Head Coach Corky Palmer said. "We plan to have a lot of competition at several positions this fall, so the coaching staff is looking forward to watching how the players develop. We also need to build depth on our pitching staff, developing starters, as well as short and middle relief pitchers and a closer. The coaching staff is ready to get started so we can see the ability of the players."
The Golden Eagles return 17 letterwinners, including five starting position players, two starting pitchers, and six bullpen pitchers from last year's squad that finished 39-23 overall and tied for fourth-place in Conference USA and advanced to its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament. The Golden Eagles have produced a 172-79 record over the past four years for a 68.5 winning percentage.
