Baseball's Maddox Named First-Team Academic All-American

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Senior third baseman Marc Maddox was named first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American today.
Maddox is the seventh baseball Golden Eagle in school history to earn Academic All-American honors, joining Austin Tubb (second-team, 2004), Clint King (third-team, 2003), Jeremy Schied (first-team, 1998), Derek Reams (first team, 1994 and 1995) and Mark Carson (first-team, 1991).
Maddox, who was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District for the third-straight season, sports a 3.79 grade point average in business administration.
The Hattiesburg, Miss., native earned first-team All-Conference USA honors in 2006, leading the team in home runs (18), RBIs (69), total bases (138) and slugging percentage (.597).
Southern Miss (38-21) will make its fourth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance this weekend, as it travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., as one of the four teams competing at Sewell-Thomas Field (6,118). The Golden Eagles are the No. 3 seed and face No. 2 seed Troy at 2:30 p.m., on Friday.
