Memphis Holds Day One Lead At Lady Eagle Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Memphis women's golf team got off to a fast start in the 2006 Lady Eagle Invitational, Monday, shooting rounds of 292 and 296 to hold the day one lead at the par-71, 6,109-yard Canebrake Country Club.
Middle Tennessee (298-304--602) stands second, while South Alabama is third with a 301-305--606. Host Southern Miss is fourth overall with a 316-303--619, while West Florida (317-304--621) rounds out the top five.
Memphis' Stacey Tate is the first-day leader with a 1-under total of 141 (71-70), four strokes ahead of Christina Wentworth of UAB, who shot a 72-73--145. South Alabama's Elin Anderson is third with a 72-74--146, while Middle Tennessee's Maggie McGill (75-72) and Memphis' Dawn Marie Conaty (73-74) are both tied for fourth scores of 147 apiece.
Jennifer Bodemann and Nicole Mackey both currently lead Southern Miss with a two-round total of 151, shooting 77-74 and 79-72, respectively. Johanna Kristiansson (79-78--157) is tied for 29th, and Ashlea Deener (82-79--161) is 43rd overall. Kate Burns (81-82--163) is tied for 45th.
Three Lady Eagles are competing as individuals in the tournament, with Helena Backlund leading with a 78-77--155 to tie for 22nd. Lina Jorneskog (78-79--157) is tied for 29th, and Beth Sprague (83-85--168) is 50th.
Final round action of the tournament is set for Tuesday, with a 7:30 a.m., shotgun start.
