WALLACE, N.C. - The Southern Miss women's golf team shot a team score of 332 in the final round to finish 12th overall at the 2006 UNC-Wilmington Lady Seahawk Invitational, Tuesday, at the par 72, 6,043-yard River Landing Golf Club here in Wallace, N.C.
The Lady Eagles, who posted scores of 318 and 311 over the first two rounds, finished with a total score of 961 for the event. Kentucky took home team honors with a total of 906 (305-306-295), while first-day leader Western Carolina slipped to second with a 308-292-308--908. Host UNC-Wilmington (300-305-306) was third with a 911, while Birmingham Southern (298-307-314) and East Tennessee State (302-308-309) finished in a tie for fourth with scores of 919.
Ashlea Deener (80-72-76--228) finished tied for 11th overall to lead Southern Miss. Johanna Kristiansson (80-80-83--243) and Jennifer Bodemann (79-89-84--243) both finished tied for 51st, while Nicole Mackey (79-79-89--247) was tied for 60th. Kate Burns rounded out the scoring with an 80-80-94--254.
UNC-Wilmington's Michelle Jarman earned medalist honors with a 72-74-72--218, while East Tennessee's Ashley Barton (73-76-71) and Kentucky's Beth Felts (71-75-74) finished tied for third with scores of 220. First-day leader Emily Klein, of Birmingham Southern, was fourth with a 71-74-76--221. Kentucky's Ali Kicklighter (77-75-71--223) finished fifth.
Southern Miss now takes a week off before hosting the Lady Eagle Classic at Canebrake Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss. The two-day tournament is set for April 10 and 11.
