Women's Golf Finishes Fourth In Season-Opening Baja Invitational

ENSENADA, Mexico - The Southern Miss women's golf team shot a team score of 1,001 to finish fourth at the 2006 Baja Invitational here in Ensenada, Mexico, earlier this week.
The Lady Eagles, who co-hosted the event with Northern Illinois, opened with a 330 in the first round and then added respective scores of 328 and 343 in rounds two and three for the final score. Nebraska won the tournament with a 309-309-310--928, while Brigham Young finished second with a 307-312-313--932. Middle Tennessee (332-318-313--963) was third. Following Southern Miss, Eastern Kentucky (343-335-331--1,009), Northern Illinois (349-331-336--1,016) and Marshall (343-345-337--1,025) rounded out the field.
Ashlea Deener paced the Lady Eagles contingent with a 81-82-85--248 to tie for 16th, while Johanna Kristiansson (81-87-83--251) finished tied for 22nd. Jennifer Bodemann (84-81-87--252) was tied for 25th, and Lina Jorneskog (87-81-88--256) was tied for 30th. Kate Burns also participated, tying for 34th with an 84-84-94--262.
Nebraska's Stephanie Ruiz took home medalist honors with a 75-73-75--223.
Southern Miss next returns to action at the Lady Jaguar Invitational, March 6-7 in Mobile, Ala.
