"First of all, hats off to Wisconsin, they are a good basketball team," Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis said. "I think we had all A's in all of our categories in the first four minutes, with the exception of giving up three offensive rebounds.
"We got off to a great start, our defensive plan was working and we had it rolling. They were stunned defensively and then bingo, we started throwing the ball all over the gym," said McNelis. "You can not turn the ball over on unforced errors and give up easy shots. That's what we did."
For the first time this season, Southern Miss lost the battle of the boards, 44-20.
In the first nine minutes of the game, Southern Miss and Wisconsin battled each other evenly. During that span, there were five ties and two lead changes.
