Women's Tennis Stands Out at Lady Eagle Fall Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team competed in the second day of their Lady Eagle Fall Classic on Saturday at the Hattiesburg Racquet Club.
The day's action began at 10 a.m., with doubles. Representing Southern Miss were Stephanie Dellocono, Lauren Gutterman, Grace Kammerer and Ali Blackett.
In the No. 1 spot, Dellocono and Gutterman defeated Lamar's Manjijee Ashrafi and Tanya Roberts, 8-6. Kammerer and Blackett also came out victorious for the Lady Eagles, defeating Lamar's Pamela Martinez and Maria Gutierrez, 8-5.
In early singles action, Dellocono, Kammerer and Gutterman all provided wins for Southern Miss.
Dellocono, who played No. 2 for the Lady Eagles, defeated UAB's Antonia Nugent, 6-4, 6-4, while Kammerer, playing No. 3, defeated UAB's Magdelena Czernik, 6-4, 7-5. Gutterman played at No. 4, defeating Samrin Tanzeem of UAB, 6-5, 6-3, and Blackett lost to UAB's Annemieke Eisholz, 6-2, 6-7, 10-6, a the No. 1 spot.
Against Lamar in singles competition, the Lady Eagles finished 3-1.
Blackett defeated Tanya Roberts, 6-4, 6-0, while Dellocono defeated Pamela Martinez, 6-3, 6-1. Playing the No. 4 spot for Southern Miss, Gutterman finished with a win against Manijee Ashrafi, 6-3, 6-4, while Kammerer, playing No. 3, was defeated by Maria Gutierrez, 6-3, 6-4.
