MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Southern Miss Lady Eagle tennis team competed in the final day of the Memphis Lady Tiger Invitational on Saturday, coming out victorious in both singles and doubles action.
"This was a great payoff weekend for us," Head Coach Randy Rowley said. "Last week at Lehigh, we got a chance to focus on instruction and work on strategy, placement and patterns. This weekend, we got to see how that hard work paid off. We played eight very good quality teams here and we ended up losing three matches all weekend. I'm pleased with all four girls that played here. I'm very happy with the outcome. We now look forward to traveling to Dartmouth and playing three Ivy League teams out there."
In Division II Singles action, Stephanie Dellocono finished as the Consolation Champion, defeating Zeljka Minic of Arkansas State, 6-3, 6-4, and Jennifer Pollack of Ball State, 6-0, 6-3.
Grace Kammerer and Lauren Gutterman finished as co-champions of the Division III Singles bracket. Kammerer defeated Campbell University's Ana Surviladze, 5-7, 6-1, 12-10, while Gutterman defeated Tanya Ahuja of Campbell University, 6-2, 7-5.
In the Division I Doubles bracket, Ali Blackett and Kammerer finished as the Consolation Champions, defeating Arkansas State's Chelminska and Oprea, 9-7, and Campbell University's Saenz/Surviladze, 8-6.
Dellocono and Gutterman finished as the champions of the Division II Doubles bracket. The pair defeated Samford's McMiller/Baker, 8-2, and Arkansas State's Van Wyk/Lokhande, 8-5.
The Lady Eagles return to action next weekend as they travel to Hanover, NH, to participate in the Dartmouth Invitational.
