Soccer Falls to Marshall, 1-0

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Southern Miss Lady Eagle soccer team lost its match-up with Conference USA team Marshall, 1-0, Friday night at Sam Hood Field.
With the loss, Southern Miss falls to 4-9-1 overall and 0-4 in Conference USA play, while Marshall improves to an overall record of 5-6-1 and a conference record of 1-3-0.
The Lady Eagles and the Thundering Herd were tied at zero until the 85th minute of play when Marshall's Kassie Hollman received a pass from Julia Axelsson that resulted in a breakaway goal.
Southern Miss was out-shot by Marshall 20-4, with only one shot on goal. Sarah DeFatta led the team with two shots. Sarah McFadden and Sarah Brennan recorded the other two shots for the Lady Eagles.
In goal, sophomore Christina Duvall finished with a total of four saves. Liz Orton was in goal for Marshall, recording one save.
Marshall now leads the all-time series 2-1, making it the Thundering Herds first victory over Southern Miss in Huntington.
The Lady Eagles will now travel to Greenville, N.C., to take on East Carolina at noon on Sunday.
