Southern Miss Volleyball Begins Three-Match Homestand

The Lady Eagle volleyball team puts its four-match wins streak on the line when Southern Miss hosts East Carolina on Friday and Marshall on Sunday.
Southern Miss (11-9, 4-2) is coming off a 3-2 win at Rice last week. Four Golden Eagles recorded double-digit kills in that match. Mari Ruddick led Southern Miss with 13 kills followed by Angela Hlavaty with 12 kills, Amanda Blunck and Amanda Huntoon had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Maia Ivanova recorded a season-high 31 digs. Morgan Johnson finished the match with eight blocks.
Petrinec continues to lead the team in kills with 205, a 2.59 per game average. Ivanova leads the team in digs with 337, a 4.27 per game average and in aces with 28. Hlavaty leads the team in attack percentage at .216 and Johnson leads the team in total blocks with 99. Cassie Lavery has recorded 487 assists.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 13.16 kills and 16.56 digs per game with an attack percentage of .162. Six players have recorded 100 or more kills on the season.
East Carolina comes into the match with a 12-9 record and 3-4 in the league, following a 3-1 win against Memphis. Kelley Wernert recorded 17 kills while Melissa Zenter added 16.
Wernert leads the team with 311 kills for a 4.20 per game average. Trish Monroe leads the team with 264 digs and Heidi Krug leads the team with 901 assists.
Head Coach Chris Rushing is in his second season at ECU. As a team, the Privates are averaging 15.31 kills and 14.72 digs per game with an attack percentage of .252.
Marshall is 13-8 and 5-2 in the league, following a 3-2 win against UAB. Kelly-Anne Billingy recorded 32 kills and 15 digs.
Billingy leads the team with 379 kills, a 6.32 per game average. Maggie Arias leads the team in digs with 391 and Christin Bimberg leads the team in assists with 781.
Head Coach Mitch Jacobs is in his fifth season at Marshall. As a team, the Thundering Herd is averaging 14.31 kills and 14.88 digs per game with an attack percentage of .247. Five players have 100 or more kills and digs on the season.
Following the weekend series, Southern Miss remains at home to host nonconference opponent Southeastern Louisiana, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
