Golden Eagle Tennis Teams Open Spring Season On Sunday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's and women's tennis teams begin their 2006 dual spring seasons Sunday Jan. 29 on the road with matches against No. 10 LSU and No. 36 Ole Miss, respectively.
The Southern Miss men's tennis team posted a record of 13-9 in 2005 and a tie for fifth place at the Conference USA Tournament, marking their first winning record since 2001. They are led by Head Coach Teddy Viator, who enters his 19th season with an overall record of 192-183. The top returnees for the Golden Eagles include senior Reid Bourgeois, who posted his second consecutive 20-win season in singles in 2005 while also leading the team in singles wins with a record of 20-13, and junior Dylan Mezey, who posted a 17-12 singles record in 2005. As a whole, the team returns four players while adding four newcomers to the roster.

Sunday's matches begin with the men's team at 1 p.m. in Baton Rouge, La., while the women's team starts at 2 p.m. in Oxford, Miss.
