Lady Eagles defeat Tulane, 75-60

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Four players scored in double figures as Southern Miss defeated Tulane, 75-60, marking the Golden Eagles first two-game win streak of the season.
With the win, Southern Miss improves to 6-10 (3-2), while the Green Wave falls to 6-7 (1-4).
Amber Eugene led all scorers with a season-high 20 points, shooting 10-14 (71 percent) from the floor. Kendra Reed scored 13, followed by 12 by Liz Biland and 10 by Ashley Boehnel. Biland and Eugene were tied for the team lead in rebounds with eight each. Jennifer Sands led Tulane with 13 points.
"I think we've come a long way, offensively, with our balanced attack," Head Coach Joye-Lee McNelis said. "Defensively, we relied on our press in the first half. In the second half, we relied more on our half-court defense. It was an overall balanced effort tonight that everybody played a key part in."
After beginning the game down 5-0, Southern Miss scored six straight points to take their first lead of the game, 6-5. Tulane momentarily retook the lead with 17:16 remaining in the half, 7-6, before Amber Eugene's jumper with 16:33 gave the Golden Eagles the new lead, 8-7, en route to a 9-2 Golden Eagle run with the score 17-9 with 14:06 left. Southern Miss amassed a 16 point lead, 35-21, by the 4:53 mark of the first half, and closed out the first half with the score, 43-31.
Liz Biland and Amber Eugene led the Golden Eagles with 10 points each at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Tulane used a 10-2 run to cut the Golden Eagle lead down to four points, 55-51 with 8:59 remaining. Southern Miss responded by rebuilding their lead by 14 points, 69-55, with 2:33 left. The Golden Eagles would hold onto the lead, defeating the Green Wave 77-60.
The Lady Eagles next host East Carolina on Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. in Reed Green Coliseum.
