HATTIESBURG,
With the loss, Southern Miss falls to 3-2-1 on the season, while
"We are a bit disappointed," Southern Miss Head Coach Gail Macklin said. "We came out flat in the second half again. The effort was there for us, but we didn't play consistent enough. We had our chances, but we didn't convert."
The two teams played a scoreless first half, while Southern Miss holding a 4-2 advantage in shots.
In the second period, Heather Swift put
"The postive thing is that we are still creating opportunities," Macklin said. "We just haven't been able to get them in the net. We played some better teams this weekend, and they have doubled up on some of our players that started the season so hot.
"We're just trying to fine tune some things. We believe we can do it and will be ready for Conference USA play."
Sarah Brennan and Chelsey Brown each had three shots for Southern Miss, with Micah Stephens, Brown and Brennan each posting shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Holly Cox finished with four saves for the Lady Eagles.
Southern Miss returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 25, with a 1 p.m., contest at Louisiana Tech, in the team?s final non-conference match of the season.
