Johnston Named To Valley League All-League Team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Southern Miss redshirt freshman pitcher Jonathan Johnston, member of the Waynesboro, Va., squad, was selected as an All-League Team member for the Virginia-based Valley Collegiate Wood Bat Baseball League as announced by the league office.

Johnston, named to the team as a relief pitcher, made 20 appearances this summer and finished with a 2-1 record with a 0.30 ERA in 30.1 innings pitched. He collected five saves and only surrendered one earned run for the season. He stuck out 26, walked 12 and opponents hit only .228 off of him.

Redshirt freshman pitcher Ben Wade also pitched in the same league, pitching for the Covington, Va., based team and finished with a 4-2 record with a 1.17 ERA in 54.0 innings pitched. He made 12 appearances, started seven games and finished with two saves. He struck out 46, walked 21 and opponents hit .242 against him.

Sophomore second baseman Trey Sutton hit .271with two doubles, one triple, one home run and eight RBIs in 36 games for Covington, and redshirt freshman infielder Patrick Maxwell hit .216 with four doubles, one triple, two home runs and drove in 15 runs.
