Baseball Announces First Signee of Spring Signing Period
"I am excited that Ryan has decided to attend Southern Miss and join our baseball program," Palmer said. "He has outstanding breaking pitches to go along with a good fastball, which adds another solid pitcher to our staff. The difference between average and above average pitchers at the NCAA Division I level is the quality of their breaking pitches and whether they can locate them for strikes. We need to continue adding quality pitchers to our staff who can throw hard and locate their breaking pitches for strikes. His brother Brandon was a former standout at Tulane, so he is familiar with our program and the conference.? This season, Belanger currently has made 15 appearances, starting 13 of them, and is 5-7 with a 2.50 ERA and has two saves in 83.2 innings pitched. He has 102 strikeouts, walked 22 and opponents are hitting .215 against him. He is a first-team All-Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC), an all-state selection and a second-team all-region honoree. He helped lead Copiah-Lincoln CC to the NJCAA Division II South Region championship this past weekend, defeating No. 1 Pearl River JC for the championship. The Golden Eagles early signees are Luke Adkins (OF/5-9/165/ Nettleton HS), Brian Dozier (SS/5-11/170/Itawamba Agricultural HS), Bailey Hartel (SS/5-10/170/Pearl River CC), Wayne Smith (LHP/Oak Grove HS) and Keith Winstead (C/6-3/195/Pearl River CC).
