Basketball Takes To The Road To Face Arkansas on Wednesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's basketball team takes to the road for its final game in the month of November, taking on the University of Arkansas on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 8:05 p.m.
The game will be televised on the Fox Sports South Network, which can be found on Hattiesburg-Comcast Cable's Channel 47. The game also will be carried in parts of Florida on the Sunshine Network. Both networks can be found on both DirectTv and the Dish Network if the person has the Fox Sports packages.
The game also will be broadcast over the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network, with the "Voice of the Golden Eagles" John Cox and former legendary Coach M.K. Turk calling the action. Air time begins at 7:30 p.m., CT, with the Golden Eagle Courtside Show.
The Golden Eagles, under the direction of Head Coach Larry Eustachy, come into the game with a 1-3 overall record, dropping its third-straight with a 52-33 loss to Samford at home on Monday. Jason Forte currently leads Southern Miss in scoring with 10.0 points per game, while Courtney Beasley and Kyle Lamonte each have 7.5 points per game averages.
Arkansas, under the direction of Stan Heath, enters the game with a 3-2 overall record, including Saturday's 75-55 win over Radford. The Razorbacks opened the season with a win over Portland State (107-69), before going 1-2 in the Maui Invitational, losing to Connecticut (77-68) and Maryland (75-62) and topping Kansas (65-64) by one. Ronnie Brewer paces all players with 21.4 points per game, while Jonathon Modica follows with 14.0 points per game. Darian Townes has a team-high 6.0 rebounds per outing, while Dontell Jefferson has a team-best 32 assists.
This is the fifth time the two schools have met in basketball and the first time since the 2000-01 season in a five-game series that dates back to 1978. The first meeting took place in 1978 in Pine Bluff, Ark., on Dec. 23 with Arkansas winning, 93-79, and Southern Miss won the last meeting on Nov. 18, 2000, in Fayettville, Ark., 63-54. The Razorbacks won the next three meetings all in Fayetteville, 76-68 - 1980, 63-54 - 1981 and 64-62 - 1982.
Following the contest, Southern Miss returns home to host the University of New Orleans, Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m., at Reed Green Coliseum. The game was originally scheduled for New Orleans on the same day, but the game was moved following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina earlier this fall.
