Soccer Falls To Tulane, 1-0
HATTIESBURG, Miss.? The Southern Miss Lady Eagle soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Tulane today.
With the loss, Southern Miss falls to 3-5 overall, 0-3 in Conference
Tulane?s Jackie Obert netted the game?s lone goal at the 34:49 mark in the first period, off an assist from Megan Weinlein, to clinch the win for the Green Wave.
Southern Miss out-shot Tulane 13-6, including an 8-1 edge in the second half, but could not net a goal.
Carly Barkley led Southern Miss with a game-high four shots, while Sarah McFadden had three. Obert had a team-high three shots for Tulane.
?We had chance after chance after chance,? Southern Miss Head Coach Gail Macklin said. ?Kim Turner, Sarah McFadden and Carly Barkley each had great looks at the goal. It?s frustrating to not have the shots go in. We made one mistake, and it cost us. Their goal came off a free kick, which resulted in the goal. We did have a good performance. The goals just didn?t go in.?
Freshman goalkeeper Holly Cox had a pair of saves in goal today for Southern Miss, while Tulane goalkeeper Kathryn Alario had seven saves, including six in the second half.
Macklin added she was particularly pleased with the performance of sophomore defender Erin Bunyard, who stepped up the team?s defensive effort due to injuries to Katie Warmington and Katie McClary.
?She was just excellent all weekend,? Macklin said.
Today?s match was the eighth consecutive road match for Southern Miss. The squad did not play a home match in September, and hasn?t played a home match since opening its season against Louisiana-Lafayette on Aug. 26.
?I think that the road schedule has taken a toll a little bit,? Macklin said. ?The girls will be happy to play at home this weekend.?
