Soccer Falls To UTEP, 2-0
With the loss, Southern Miss falls to 3-4-1 overall, 0-2 in Conference
?We played really well,? Southern Miss Head Soccer Coach Gail Macklin said. ?We played hard again tonight and competed well against a very good UTEP team. At times, I thought we out-played them. If we keep playing hard like we are, we?re going to get some positive results.?
UTEP got a goal from Kia Sams at the 35:08 mark, as it took a 1-0 lead at halftime. Southern Miss out-shot UTEP 6-5 in the first period.
In the second period, Melissa Abraham netted the final goal of the game for the Lady Miners, off an assist from Cara Nordin.
UTEP finished the match out-shooting Southern Miss 16-12.
Junior Carly Barkley led Southern Miss with three shots, while Micah Stephens had two shots, with both coming on goal. Freshman Sarah McFadden and Kalee Silovsky each posted two shots for the Lady Eagles. Macklin said McFadden?s two shots barely missed the net, as each hit the post.
Freshman Holly Cox posted six saves in goal tonight for Southern Miss.
Southern Miss travels to College Station, Texas tomorrow, to face Tulane on the campus of Texas A&M. The match, set for 10 a.m., will be played in
