Soccer Falls Again In Double-Overtime Heartbreaker, 1-0
With the loss, Southern Miss falls to 4-7-1 overall, 1-5 in Conference
?It?s disappointing and heartbreaking,? Southern Miss Head Coach Gail Macklin said. ?That?s all you can say. The girls have done everything we?ve asked them to do. We can?t fault them for anything. I don?t know what else we can do. They play hard and compete, but we just can?t seem to catch a break. We had opportunities, but we didn?t convert.?

In the first period, the Lady Blazers out-shot the Lady Eagles 10-3, but Holly Cox made four saves to keep UAB out of the goal.
In the second period, Southern Miss out-shot UAB 11-4 edge. The Lady Eagles had an opportunity to get on the scoreboard at the 78:00 mark, but shot by Carly Barkley at the 78:30 mark was blocked, a shot by Sara McFadden at the 78:48 mark was blocked and a shot at the 78:53 mark by Barkley went wide.
The Lady Eagles also had an opportunity in the first overtime, but off a corner kick, Micah Stephens? shot was saved by UAB goalkeeper Katie Forbis. The two teams tied in shots in the first overtime, at one apiece.
In the second-overtime, UAB?s Jill Porto netted the game winning goal off an assist from Philo Mbong to claim the victory.
UAB finished the match with a 16-15 edge in shots.
Chelsey Brown and Kalee Silovsky led Southern Miss with three shots, Brown posting a team-best two coming on goal. Barkley and Katie McClary each had two shots in the match. Holly Cox had five saves in goal for Southern Miss.
Macklin said she was particularly pleased with the performances of Silovsky and Erin Bunyard today.
