Lady Eagle Basketball Team Making Progress
"I think we are making progress, however, it may be baby steps," McNelis said. "Today is the first day we've had 10 people for practice and that was real progress. In our first week, we are pleased. Sometimes as coaches, we would like to get up and run, but it?s a slow process. I believe the players we have are talented. We are in the process of learning each other, learning the system and what's expected."
Liz Biland is one of five sophomores returning in a 'veteran' role. "We are excited about this season," she said. "We have a group of sophomores who will be the leaders of this team. We kind of know what we are doing more so than the freshmen, and we have the opportunity to lead by example this year."
Biland played in 26 games last season, missing two games with an injury. She averaged 6.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
"We have much less stress than last year," Biland said. "I believe we have a good team. We seem to be on the same page in working toward a common goal. Every one works hard in practice."
The 2005-06 consist of five freshmen and a junior college transfer and according to guard Kristin Chaney, she and her teammates will have had to make adjustments to the collegiate play.
"I've had to adjust to a lot of things, even though I've played on the college level before, it's different," she said. "Everything is much faster, and the players are smarter. Trying to learn the offense, itself, has been a challenge. We are having fun, but at the same time, it's been a lot of hard work."
