With the win, the Lady Eagles are now 3-0-1 on the season.
?The tournament victory is a big boost for our team,? Southern Miss first year Head Coach Gail Macklin said. ?We were disappointed after Friday?s tie. We had a very positive team performance in the tournament. We?re still undefeated and have confidence heading into our next match.?
In the game, senior forward Lauren Prewitt gave the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead, scoring her seventh goal of the season nine minutes into the game. Sophomore Sarah Brennan added an insurance goal in the 53rd minute, as senior goalkeeper Anna Synder recorded her second shutout of the tournament, while picking up two saves.
Prewitt was named MVP of the tournament, while two other Lady Eagles, senior Micah Stevens and junior Katie McClary were named to the All-Tournament team.
Southern Miss returns to action Friday, Sept. 10, at
