Soccer Drops First Match Of The Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss.? The Southern Miss soccer team dropped its first game of the season Tuesday, falling 2-1 at South Alabama.
 
With the loss, the Lady Eagles fall to 4-1-1 on the season, while South Alabama improves to 5-2.
 
?Our mistakes cost us, and South Alabama capitalized on them,? Southern Miss Head Soccer Coach Gail Macklin said. ?We?re disappointed, but it is a reality check for us. We have to put this loss behind us and move on.?
 
Southern Miss took the first lead of the game in the 37th minute as forward Lauren Prewitt scored on a 10-yard strike past South Alabama goalkeeper Amber Angermeier. The goal was Prewitt?s team-high ninth goal of the season. Micah Stephens was awarded an assist on the goal.
 
South Alabama responded less than two minutes later, evening the match on Heather Adamus? fourth goal of the year. 
 
The Lady Jaguars scored their winning goal with 17 minutes remaining in the match, as Karrie Johnson scored her team-high fifth goal of the season, that clinched the win. 
 
Southern Miss out-shot South Alabama 13-9. Lady Jaguar Amber Angermeier turned back a game-best six shots on the night.
    
The Lady Eagles return home this weekend, opening the Conference USA portion of their schedule. Southern Miss will face TCU Friday at 4 p.m., and Houston Sunday at 1 p.m.
