Soccer Wins Again, Stays Undefeated

? Southern Miss sophomore forward Carly Barkley scored a pair of goals to lead the Lady Eagles to a 3-2 victory over Birmingham-Southern, Friday, at the BSC Soccer Park in Birmingham, Ala.
The goals were her first and second goals of the season for Barkley, who scored nine goals for Southern Miss last season. With the win, Southern Miss remains undefeated at 4-0-1, while BSC dropped to 
"I'm pleased that we continue to win, though tonight's game was closer than I hoped for," Southern Miss Head Soccer Coach Gail Macklin said. "We've been playing hard and we're getting closer to Conference USA action with confidence."
Barkley put the Lady Eagles on top 20 minutes into the contest when she gathered a loose ball in the box and beat BSC keeper Tarra Kohler to the far post for a 1-0 lead.
But Birmingham-Southern responded in the 31st minute, as Anne McIntyre took a through ball from Ashley Welch and scored her third goal of the season.
The score remained tied until the Lady Eagles stretched its lead to 3-1 in the second half with a pair of goals within a five-minute span. 
Barkley netted her second goal of the evening in the 53rd minute when she deposited a rebound after Lauren Prewitt?s shot bounced off Panther keeper Andria Gray. Then, exactly five minutes later Prewitt notched her eighth goal of the season as she scored from in front off a well-placed cross from the right wing from Megan Kolts.
Birmingham-Southern responded, as Catherine Spiker put the Panthers back in contention as she chipped a free kick over Southern Miss goal keeper Anna Snyder from 20 yards out in the 88th minute, making the score 3-2.
But the Lady Eagles closed out the victory, to remain undefeated this season.
BSC out-shot Southern Miss 12-10. Snyder led Southern Miss with six saves.
The Lady Eagles return to action at home, Sept. 17 against Louisiana-Lafayette in a match scheduled for 4 p.m.
