Baseball Announces Fifth Signee Of Spring Period
Corky Palmer |
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ?
Southern Miss Baseball Coach Corky Palmer has announced the signing of Tyler Perrett, a 6-4, 210-pound right-handed pitcher from Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss., to a letter of intent for the 2004-05 academic year. This marks the fifth signee of the spring period and the 12th signee overall for the year, including the early signing period.
"I'm pleased Tyler has decided to attend Southern Miss," Palmer said. "The coaching staff has been working hard this year on building pitching depth, and Tyler is the seventh pitcher we have signed. Next season, he will be used either as a spot starter or in relief. He has good command of his pitches and throws a sinking fastball, as well as a curve and changeup."
Perrett, who hails from Hazelhurst, Miss., was a two-year starter at Copiah-Lincoln CC for Coach Keith Case. As a sophomore this past season, he finished with a 7-3 record and a 3.70 ERA in 47.0 innings pitched and struck out 31 batters, while walking 15. He helped lead Copiah-Lincoln to a 34-17 record and an appearance in the NJCAA South Region 23 Finals. They finished second in the region and third in the state. He was named second-team all-state and second-team All-Region 23. As a freshman in 2003, he finished with a 6-6 record and a 4.20 ERA in 70 innings pitched. He struck out 55 batters and walked 12.
Perrett was a four-year letterwinner for Coach Trey Bayliss at Jackson Prep in Jackson, Miss. He was a two-time all-conference performer and played in the Mississippi Private School Association's all-star game as a senior.
The Golden Eagles other signees are Cole Besinger (6-2, 195, LHP, Minette, Ala./Faulkner State CC), Matt Caire (6-0, 210, LHP, Luling, La./Delgado CC), Damian Dalfrey (6-2, 210, RHP, Eunice, La./LSU-Eunice), Bo Davis (6-0, 175, OF, Meridian, Miss./West Lauderdale HS), Jacob Fowler (5-11, 185, OF, Tuscaloosa, Ala./Bevill State Community College), Jonathan Johnston (6-2, 190, RHP, Jackson, Miss./Northwest Rankin HS), Patrick Maxwell (5-11, 190, INF, Shreveport, La./Evangelical Christian), Bradley Owen (6-5, 215, LHP, Semmes, Ala./Pensacola JC), David Steele (6-2, 190, OF, Mandeville, La./Mandeville HS), Trey Sutton (6-0, 170, INF, Laurel, Miss./West Jones HS) and Ben Wade (6-2, 180, RHP, Eatonville, Miss./North Forrest HS).
