Women?s Tennis Player Berry Named CoSIDA Academic All-American
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss senior women?s tennis player Olivia Berry was selected for the highest award that honors both academic excellence and athletic achievement with a 2004 Academic All-America second team selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.
Berry helped the Lady Eagle team finish with a record of 12-11 and a ninth-place finish at the Conference USA Tournament. She played at No. 5 singles, posting a 13-17 record, including 8-13 in dual match play during the spring. She and Courtney Ulrich teamed together at No. 3 doubles, finishing with an 8-9 record. Berry, who owns a perfect 4.00 GPA in biology, received the C.L. Dews Scholar Athlete Award, while being a member of the USM Presidential Foundation Scholar-Honors College. She received the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship. She was voted Omicron Delta Kappa Most Outstanding Freshman as well as being a member of Lamdba Sigma Honor Society and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. She was named to the President?s List every semester, receiving the Conference USA Academic Medalist and a Sportscare Scholar-Athlete award. She graduated in three years in Biology and has been accepted into medical school.
Berry was the only CoSIDA Academic All-American selection from Conference USA as well the only one from the state of Mississippi.
