Two Lady Eagle Athletes Named Academic All-District

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- A pair of Southern Miss Lady Eagle student-athletes earned spots on the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District VI University Division Women's At-Large Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Senior tennis player Olivia Berry (Gulfport, Miss.) was one of 10 members on the all-district first team, while junior golfer Jennifer Keefe (Winterpark, Fla.) was part of the 10-member second team. The two athletes joined 20 others hailing from 13 other schools throughout the region.
As a first-team selection, Berry now moves on to the Academic All-America University Division national ballot. The Academic All-America Women's At-Large Team will be announced on Thursday, June 17.
Berry helped the Lady Eagle team finish with a record of 12-11 and a ninth-place finish at the Conference USA Tournament. She played at No. 5 singles, posting 13-17 record, including 8-13 in dual match play during the spring. She and Courtney Ulrich teamed together at No. 3 doubles team, finishing with an 8-9 record.
Berry, who owns a perfect 4.00 GPA in biology, received the C.L. Dews Scholar Athlete Award, while being a member of the USM Presidential Foundation Scholar-Honors College. She received the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship and was voted Omicron Delta Kappa Most Outstanding Freshman as well as being a member of Lamdba Sigma Honor Society and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. She was named to the President?s List every semester, while receiving the Conference USA Academic Medalist and a Sportscare Scholar-Athlete award. She graduated in three years in biology and has been accepted into medical school.
Keefe, who has a 3.99 GPA in international business, was named second team All-Conference USA. She finished the year with a stroke average of 77.91 in 24 rounds. She was the medalist at the NIU Snowbird Classic. She had seven top-20 finishes, including three in the top 10. She finished in a tie for seventh at the Conference USA Championship. She has been a member of the President?s List four semesters and on the Dean?s List. Keefe received the Conference USA Academic Medal for the past three seasons and was a three-time Student-Athlete Advisory Committee gold medalist for three years.
