Southern Miss Finishes Third in Lady Eagle Invitational
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Head Coach Julie Gallup and her Southern Miss Lady Eagles saved their best round of the week for today's final round of the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational, and that final round 306 moved USM into 3rd place in the 54-hole event that was played at the Shadow Ridge Golf Club here.
In addition to the third place finish, Southern Miss' Mia Davidsson claimed a share of medalist honors with rounds of 77-73-74--224. Davidsson and College of Charleston's Gretchen Zoeller (76-70-78--224) finished in a tie for medalist honors, and when five additional holes failed to determine a winner, the two were declared co-medalists.
In addition to Davidsson, other scorers included Jennifer Keefe (76-78-78--232), and Ofelia Lopez (80-78-74--232) who both tied for 12th, Natasha Vincent (82-78-86-246) who tied for 40th and Nicole Mackey (85-88-80--253) who tied for 51st.
Gallup was pleased with her team's effort, especially on the final day. "Our 306 today tied for the best round of the day, and was our best round of the tournament," she said. "It also was our best round of the event, I thought we got better as the event progressed, and this should give us a real boost as we head into the conference tournament."
Georgia State's Erica Wein finished 3rd in the individual standings at 74-77-75-226. Lisbeth Meincke, also of Georgia State (71-74-82--227), and Campbell's Sofia Gorelik (80-75-72--227) tied for 4th.
Southern Miss completed its regular season with this week's tournament, and will play next in the April 19th Conference USA Tournament.
