Baseball Travels To UAB For Conference Weekend Series

The Golden Eagles (31-11, 12-6) are coming off a 6-3 win against Ole Miss in Jackson Tuesday, while UAB (20-20, 7-10) is coming off a 12-2 loss at home against Mississippi State on Tuesday.
On Friday, Southern Miss will send sophomore right-hander Daniel Best to the mound against Blazer right-hander Grant Addison. Best comes in with a 3-2 record and a 6.02 ERA. He has pitched 49.1 innings, gave up 33 earned runs on 65 hits. He has struck out 39 and walked 14. Opponents have hit .319 against him. In his last appearance, Best got a no-decision in pitching five innings in relief, giving up eight earned runs on 11 hits last Saturday in a 17-5 Tulane win. He struck out two and walked one.
On Saturday, Southern Miss will send freshman right-hander Patrick Ezell to the mound against UAB right-hander Jeff Brown. Ezell comes in with a 4-1 record and an ERA of 4.23. He has given up 26 earned runs on 63 hits in 55.1 innings. He has struck out 47, walked six and opponents have hit .285 against him. In his last outing, Ezell earned a no-decision at Tulane. He pitched five innings, gave up two earned runs on six hits, struck out three and didn?t walk any.
Brown enters the weekend with a 4-3 record and a 3.32 ERA. He has allowed 24 earned runs on 62 hits, struck out 33 and walked 26. Opponents have hit .255 against him. In his last outing, he pitched a complete game at Charlotte, giving up one earned run and seven hits over eight innings. He struck out four and walked four in the 16-1 Blazer victory.
On Sunday, the Golden Eagles will send either freshman right-hander Mike Cashion or senior right-hander Anthony DeWitt to the mound against Blazer right-hander Adam Price. Cashion enters the weekend with a 2-1 record and a 2.31 ERA. He has pitched 23.1 innings, gave up six earned runs on 16 hits. He has struck out 28 and walked 14. Opponents have hit .184 against him. In his last outing, Cashion received his first start of his collegiate career and pitched five innings on April 20 at Ole Miss. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits, struck out two and walked three in picking up the win in the 8-4 Southern Miss victory.
DeWitt enters the weekend with a 7-2 record and an ERA of 4.53. He has pitched 57.2 innings, giving up 29 earned runs on 74 hits. He has struck out 44 and walked 18. Opponents have hit .307 against him. Price comes in with a record of 3-5 and a 4.45 ERA. He has pitched 60.2 innings, gave up 30 earned runs on 69 hits, struck out 35 and walked 20. Opponents have hit .289 against him. Southern Miss is led offensively by junior shortstop Matt Shepherd, who sports a .413 batting average. He also leads the team in on-base percentage (.479), stolen bases (6) and triples (6). Junior second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir leads the team in RBIs (62). He is hitting .401 with 18 doubles, one triple and seven home runs. Senior right fielder Ryan Frith leads the team in home runs (15). He is also hitting .333 with 10 doubles and 41 RBIs.
